FOCUS Benefits Children, Staff and Centers

The FOCUS Tiered Quality Rating and Improvement System (TQRIS) at Little Forest Playschool is one of over 200 programs across New Mexico participating in The FOCUS New Mexico’s Tiered Quality Rating and Improvement System (TQRIS) . Through the Race To the Top – Early Learning Challenge (RTT-ELC) grant, FOCUS TQRIS has been implemented across the Early Learning System. It remains a 5-star rating system, with enhancements that include a stronger emphasis on the full participation of each and every child, effective teaching, and promoting early learning and development outcomes for each individual child. As a key component of implementation, consultants are assigned to work with early learning programs to help them meet the TQRIS criteria through training and coaching and to assist providers with establishing a Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) system throughout the center.

“One of the biggest benefits for centers joining FOCUS is the support you receive from your consultant,” April added. “They are there every step of the way and provide 24/7 support to the administration and teachers. Their guidance is invaluable and is unique to FOCUS,” she added.

Established in 1951, Little Forest Playschool is a private, non-profit, parent cooperative early childhood center for children ages 2-5 in Los Alamos and surrounding areas. “Through FOCUS, April added.” we can take great pride in our commitment to continuous quality improvement and to promoting life-long learning not only for children, but for families and staff alike.”
