Early Learning New Mexico is jointly administered by early childhood leaders from:

  • Public Education Department (PED):
    • PreK
    • Preschool Special Education (IDEA 619)
  • Children Youth & Families Department (CYFD):
    • Home Visiting
    • Child Care
    • PreK
    • Head Start / Early Head Start
  • Department of Health (DOH):
    • Family Infant Toddler (FIT) Program (IDEA Part C)

Two representatives from PED, CYFD and DOH meet on a regular basis in order to:

  • Conduct collaborative planning of the statewide system of early learning services, including procurements and grant applications;
  • Oversee the development and operation of the Early Childhood Intergrated Data System (ECIDS);
  • Ensure collaboration with the Governor's Early Learning Advisory Council (ELAC);
  • Oversee Early Learning NM communications (website, newsletters, etc.);
  • Promote collaboration with other systems (Higher Education; Infant & Early Childhood Mental Health; Child Welfare; K-12 Education; Health & Nutrition, etc.)

The Early Learning NM team is developing a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) that includes the three State agencies. The MOU will ensure the sustainability of alignment and collaboration for early learning services in New Mexico across administrations and that builds on the work achieved as part of the Race To the Top - Early Learning Challenge grant
